Staying active

For us, investing in startups is so much more than just writing cheques. It comes down to providing practical support for our founders, making fruitful introductions, getting hands-on with our sales and talent expertise – whatever it takes to help our portfolio companies succeed. Active Impact began as a way to scale up and help a portfolio of purpose-driven companies get to the next level. Mike, Tom and Imran grew Fund I to 15 incredible companies and we recently had our first exit. Now we are a team of seven individuals who are highly motivated to apply our diverse talents and experience to bring another 15 ClimateTech companies into the portfolio and help them profitably support environmental sustainability. This month we made our first investment from Fund II into Encycle, added more strength and skills to our team and continued to help our founders access the resources and support they need to grow and succeed.

On Earth Day, Sam led our second Active Academy session, “Navigating the transition from Seed to Series B financing”. This session created an opportunity for our founders to learn from and connect with ecosystem and climate impact leaders including Matt Eggers from Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Shirley Speakman from Cycle Capital, Mark Trevitt from BDC, and Jason Smith, the Founder and CEO of Klue Technologies, who provided practical input on how to attract strategic partners and capital. As our fund matures, we’ll continue to curate regular, targeted development events like this meant to support our founders on their journey to exceptional scale and impact.
