Fire is a natural part of forest ecosystems, but a century of aggressive fire suppression and a changing climate have produced record breaking wildfire seasons in Canada and the US in the last decade; 25 million hectares (approx. the size of the United Kingdom) were burned in Canada in the last 5 years alone. Lightning strikes initiate 50% of Canadian wildfires yet account for over 85% of the land area burned–making lightning an interesting leverage point for wildfire prevention and reduction efforts.

Skyward is using their proprietary weather prediction software to prevent lightning strikes from happening in the most vulnerable areas. Skyward was able to demonstrate 60-100% reductions in lightning activity in storm systems, holding massive impact potential.
